Announcing our newly redesigned website!

A new website highlighting selections from our collection of 6000+ historical Yiddish sound recordings

We’re excited to announce the launch of a newly redesigned Mayrent Institute for Yiddish Culture website,

Our new site builds on our collaborative project with Mills Music Library and University of Wisconsin Digital Collections (UWDC) to digitize and curate the Mayrent Collection of Yiddish Recordings. The UWDC site currently hosts 2200+ recordings from the Collection, all freely available to the public via online streaming and complete with full discographic information.

Here at the Mayrent Institute site, we'll highlight select recordings from the Collection, allowing users another entryway into discovering the world's largest archive of Yiddish-language sound recordings. As we develop this site, we plan to offer

  • essays focusing on specific recordings and historical topics,
  • histories of recording labels that focused on Yiddish music,
  • biographies of performers,
  • thematic playlists highlighting recordings from the Collection,

and we’ll continue to highlight Institute news and events as well as other projects.

Be sure to keep up with the latest news from the Institute by liking our Facebook page and following us on Twitter.

Special thanks to the team at DoIT Academic Technology, especially Garrett Smith, and Ryan Engel from Learning Support Services for their help in designing and launching this project.

Please feel free to send comments and questions, and let us know if you encounter any problems with the site.
