Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - 6:00pm
Audubon Room, University Club, 803 State St., Madison, WI

Join us on Wednesday, March 30 at 6pm in the historic University Club for Der Shmues, a lively new Yiddish conversation circle.

Led by Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies director and German professor Mark Louden and Mayrent Institute founding director Henry Sapoznik the conversation will span all manner of topics to allow the greatest ease and entry for all attendees.

Mark Louden came to his Yiddish as a logical outgrowth of his studies in German and German-American linguistics. His interest in Yiddish came about while at the University of Texas at Austin where he studied with Itzik Gottesman, professor of Yiddish and former editor at the Jewish Daily Forverts.

Henry Sapoznik came from a Yiddish speaking home where his parents, who were Holocaust survivors from the city of Rovne in Volhynia gubernia, kept the language and culture alive on a daily basis.

All ages and abilities are welcome to this free and open event.
