Max Wilner was born on December 18, 1895 in Brzozów, Galicia (now Poland). He imigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1908 and began his career in vaudeville in 1910. His comedic work caught the attention of Bessie Thomashefsky, with whom he first acted in 1917. He spent the 1920s as a comic actor at the National and Second Avenue Theaters.
