Benny Zeidman was born on December 12, 1866, in Teplyk Ukraine. The son of a cantor, Zeidman studied with Zeydl Rovner before leaving for London where he studied under Lewis Lipshitz at the Cannon Street Road Synagogue. He began acting on the Yiddish stage while in London, debuting in a production of Abraham Goldfaden’s Bar Kochba. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1906 and spent the next several decades working as a character-actor at the Lenox Theatre, the Grand Theatre, and the National Theatre.
Here Zeidman performs “Der Feter” from The Girl from the Other World, recorded on November 8, 1916.
