World Records: a symposium on the Mayrent Collection
Our next major program offering is an exciting symposium that will introduce the Mayrent Collection (a collection of over 9000 78 pm recordings reflecting all aspects of Jewish cultural life) and that seeks to place it in the context of other historical American vernacular musics on record.
Alongside presentations about these musical practices, we will also invite consideration of issues of preservation, access, and copyright ownership which are vital to making the most of resources like the Mayrent Collection.
Our symposium is March 14-15, 2013. It is free and open to the public and will be held on the UW-Madison campus.
